A COALITION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS
The Million Women Rise Coalition welcomes the support of ALL women who sign up to our statement of demands and who want to see an end to male violence in all its forms. This space is for lovers not haters and we welcome All women.
The Million Women Rise march is open to all women and children. The march is led and organised by a majority of black women. This is the same for all our activities throughout the years and the lead up to the march.
Women and children in the UK and elsewhere around the world continue to experience violence every minute of every hour of every day in our homes, on our streets, on our public transport, at our places of work and in countries where there is war.
The idea for the Million Women Rise came from a group of women who dreamed of a strong visible presence of thousands of women marching together, in solidarity, to say ‘enough is enough’. It was founded by Sabrina Qureshi in 2007 within the back drop of the unfair system for women who have no access to public funds and the cuts to women's services particularly provisions for women who were overcoming their experiences of domestic and sexual violence.
Women have been socially, culturally and economically conditioned to defer to men, to take our lead from men, to behave in ways approved of by men.
On this particular day, we want women to come and feel the strength, the exhilaration and power of being with other women, to celebrate ourselves, our differences , our multiculturalness and our diversity, to sing, shout and chant at the top of our voices, dance, march, make movement and show resistance and with our bodies and, to demonstrate however we want One of the main aims is for any woman who has experienced, witnessed or been threatened by male violence is to know that she is not alone and that although male violence is often normalised it is not normal and women are working all over the world in paid and unpaid capacity to bring an end to it. The movement is strong and although we may not all agree on every thing the one thing we are united with is that male violence in all its forms must end and it must end now. . we believe that it is only together and with true solidarity we can bring an end to male violence against women and girls in all its forms. We need each other , the masters tools of divide and rule is not an option. We women are under siege and yet it is us only together that can end this war on our hearts, minds and bodies.
The speakers at the all women's platform at our Trafalgar Sq rally express their fight and resistance through spoken word, song and dance and is a unapologetic platform of celebration, expression and defiance.
All women are welcome as One Woman , One Body, One Song, One Love.
Together we will end this violence against us and our loved ones.
We know that there are men who want to support the spirit and intentions of the event.
