A COALITION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS

The Million Women Rise Coalition welcomes the support of ALL who sign up to our statement of demands and who want to see an end to male violence in all its forms. Million Women Rise is open to all women and children.

The march is led and organised by  black women.

Women and children here in England and  around the world continue to experience male violence every minute of every hour of every day in our homes, on our streets, on our public transport, at our places of work and in war. Women have been socially, culturally and economically conditioned to defer to men, to take our lead from men, to behave in ways approved of by men.

On this particular day, we want women to come and feel the strength, the exhilaration and power of being with other women, to celebrate ourselves, our differences , our multiculturalness, to sing, shout and chant at the top of our voices, dance, march, make movement and show resistance with our bodies, to demonstrate however we want.

Sabrina Qureshi, the founder and coordinator of Million Women Rise, speaking at the 2009 Rally
One of the main aims is for any woman who has experienced, witnessed or been threatened by male violence is to know that she is not alone and that although male violence is often normalised it is not normal. Women are working all over the world in paid and unpaid capacity to bring an end to to male violence. The movement is strong and although we may not all agree on every thing the one thing we are united with is that male violence in all its forms must end and it must end now in our lifetime. We believe that it is only together and with true solidarity that we can bring an end to male violence against women and girls in all its forms. We need each other, the masters tools of divide and rule is not an option. We women are under siege and yet it is us only together that can end this war on our hearts, minds and bodies.

The speakers at the all women's platform at our Trafalgar Square rally express their fight and resistance through spoken word, song and dance and is a unapologetic platform of celebration, expression and defiance.

All women are welcome as One Woman , One Body, One Song, One Love.

Together we will end this violence against us and our loved ones.
